About Us
Established in 1985, Beacon Foundation Ltd. is a charitable, not-for-profit organization in Guyana, providing care for terminally ill cancer patients and their families.
Prior to 1989, almost all terminally ill cancer patients were doomed to die in pain, often in hospital and away from family and loved ones. Beacon Foundation Ltd. recognized the need for palliative care in Guyana. With the help of St. Christopher’s Hospice in the UK, Beacon was able to train nurses in this field, modernizing cancer care in the country, and establishing what would be the core of Beacon’s service in the upcoming years.
During the last 40 years of service, Beacon Foundation Ltd. has also developed and supported myriad causes, groups and activities throughout the country. This has included working with medical institutions and organizations, homeless shelters, women’s groups, indigenous communities and schools to launch skills training, feeding programmes, and basic services to support those in need.

Support to Families
Based on patient needs and severity of situation, Beacon offers support to patients and families, including diet-specific foodstuff and medical items. Our Nurses also retain relationships with families, providing medical and emotional advice and counseling, guidance, and simply lending an ear as families navigate this difficult time.
